Private jet travel has reached unprecedented popularity in 2025, with 3.7 million flights recorded as of December 15. This represents a 5% increase over the previous year and a 35% rise compared to pre-pandemic levels.

The surge is driven by several factors. Many travelers who experienced private flights during the pandemic refuse to return to commercial aviation, while others seek increased privacy. The number of ultra-high-net-worth individuals—defined as those with assets over $30 million—has grown more than 70% since 2020.

This demographic spent nearly $30 billion on private jets and yachts in 2024. Fractional ownership models offered by companies like NetJets and VistaJet have made private aviation more accessible. Hourly rates start at $6,500, with luxury amenities including onboard facials and Nobu catering.

Private aviation activity has reached record levels in 2025. As of December 15, there were 3.7 million private jet flights worldwide. This figure shows a 5% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

The current volume also represents a 35% increase over pre-COVID levels. Aviation intelligence firm WingX provided these statistics.

This specific group of high-net-worth individuals is fueling demand. In 2024 alone, they spent nearly $30 billion on private jets and yachts.

Matteo Atti, CMO of Vista Global (the parent company of VistaJet), notes that the market is evolving. "It's not just for people who have made it, it's for people who are making it," Atti said.

This shift suggests that private aviation is becoming accessible to a broader range of wealthy individuals, not just the established elite.

While owning a private jet remains expensive—costing millions annually for maintenance, crew, and fuel—alternative models have lowered the barrier to entry. Fractional ownership and membership programs allow travelers to purchase shares or flight hours rather than entire aircraft.

Despite the high price tag, the market continues to expand as more individuals seek the convenience and privacy that private travel offers.
