Quick Summary#

NVIDIA has unveiled DLSS 4.5 during its showcase at CES 2026. The new iteration of the real-time image-upscaling technology focuses heavily on visual fidelity and performance metrics. The centerpiece of the release is the 2nd Generation Super Resolution Transformer, which aims to deliver significantly sharper visuals.

The company claims this new transformer model improves temporal stability, reduces ghosting artifacts, and enhances anti-aliasing. Alongside visual improvements, NVIDIA introduced Dynamic Multi Frame Generation. This feature is designed to maximize frame rates to align with monitor refresh rates, specifically targeting 4K 240Hz path traced performance.

Regarding availability, the 2nd Gen Transformer Super Resolution is already accessible for all RTX GPUs. However, the Dynamic 6x Frame Generation is slated for release in Spring 2026 and will be exclusive to the RTX 50 series. The update will be deployed to more than 400 games through the NVIDIA app. Beyond DLSS, NVIDIA introduced RTX Remix Logic, a feature enabling real-time environmental reactions to gameplay events, and confirmed native client support for both Linux and Fire TV.

DLSS 4.5: Visual and Performance Upgrades#

NVIDIA continues its annual tradition of announcing upgrades to its image-upscaling technology at CES. The latest iteration, DLSS 4.5, brings substantial changes to how graphics are rendered on screen. The primary focus is the 2nd Generation Super Resolution Transformer, a new model that replaces previous iterations to offer superior image clarity.

The company asserts that this new transformer technology solves common visual issues found in upscaling. Specifically, users can expect better temporal stability, meaning the image remains consistent across moving frames. It also promises reduced ghosting, which eliminates trailing artifacts behind moving objects, and improved anti-aliasing for smoother edges on geometry.

Performance is also a major pillar of the DLSS 4.5 update. NVIDIA introduced Dynamic Multi Frame Generation to push hardware capabilities further. This technology works to maximize frames per second, ensuring they align perfectly with the monitor's refresh rate. This synchronization allows for high-end performance metrics, specifically delivering up to 4K 240Hz path traced performance on supported hardware.

Release Schedule and Compatibility#

NVIDIA has outlined a staggered release schedule for the various components of DLSS 4.5 to ensure stability and broad hardware support. The most significant portion of the update, the 2nd Gen Transformer Super Resolution, is available immediately. This feature is not limited to new hardware; it is currently supported on all RTX GPUs, allowing a wide range of users to experience the visual upgrades right away.

In contrast, the Dynamic 6x Frame Generation feature requires specific hardware architecture. It is scheduled to arrive sometime in Spring 2026. This feature will be restricted to the RTX 50 series, likely due to the specialized processing power required to generate multiple frames dynamically.

Software distribution for these updates will be handled through the NVIDIA app. The company noted that the technology will be available for more than 400 games, ensuring that the majority of the gaming ecosystem can utilize the new features upon full rollout.

RTX Remix Logic and Platform Expansion#

Beyond standard DLSS improvements, NVIDIA introduced a new feature called RTX Remix Logic. This technology focuses on dynamic environmental interactions within games. It allows the NVIDIA tech stack to react in real-time to specific in-game events, creating a more immersive experience.

For example, when a player opens a door on screen, RTX Remix Logic can trigger immediate changes to the environment. These changes include:

  • Adjusting volumetric conditions (such as fog or smoke)
  • Displaying different weather simulations with particles
  • Altering material properties of objects

The system is designed to detect more than 30 different common events. When these events occur, RTX Remix Logic can make adaptations to volumetrics, particles, material properties, and light properties automatically. This adds a layer of reactivity previously difficult to achieve in real-time rendering.

Additionally, NVIDIA is expanding its platform reach. The company noted that it now offers native clients for both Linux and Fire TV. This move signals a broader strategy to support diverse hardware ecosystems beyond the traditional Windows PC environment.

CEO Presence and Event Context#

The announcements regarding DLSS 4.5 and gaming technologies were part of a larger presentation at CES 2026. While the gaming updates were a significant highlight, the event featured a broader scope of discussion led by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang. He was present earlier in the day to discuss the company's wider roadmap and technological advancements.

The presentation serves as NVIDIA's annual major platform for consumer technology announcements. By utilizing the CES stage, the company ensures global visibility for its latest innovations in real-time rendering and AI-driven graphics. The focus on temporal stability and frame generation highlights the ongoing industry push toward higher fidelity and smoother performance in gaming.
