Quick Summary#

Nvidia has officially unveiled DLSS 4.5 at CES, bringing significant upgrades to image fidelity and frame generation capabilities. The update is available immediately for existing RTX graphics card owners through a new driver release.

The release introduces a more advanced Transformer model that enhances visual stability across supported games. Additionally, a major expansion to Multi Frame Generation is planned for the upcoming spring season, specifically targeting the new RTX 50-series hardware.

Key highlights of the announcement include:

  • Immediate availability via GeForce 591.74 driver
  • Enhanced image quality for all RTX cards
  • 6x Multi Frame Generation for RTX 50-series
  • Automatic DLSS upgrades via the Nvidia app

Next-Generation Image Quality#

Nvidia has released DLSS 4.5, delivering immediate fidelity and stability improvements to all RTX graphics card owners. The update is currently rolling out with the GeForce 591.74 driver, which is available for download now.

The core of these improvements lies in the second generation of the Transformer model introduced with DLSS 4. According to the announcement, this model has been trained on a significantly larger dataset and utilizes five times the compute power of its predecessor. This increased computational load translates into noticeable improvements in how challenging scenes are rendered.

Players can expect specific reductions in visual artifacts, including ghosting and shimmering. Furthermore, the update enhances anti-aliasing, resulting in sharper and more stable images during gameplay.

Specific titles highlighted for notable improvements include:

  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered
  • Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

Accessing the Update 🚀#

Users looking to experience DLSS 4.5 immediately can do so in over 400 supported titles. The Nvidia app has recently gained the functionality to automatically upgrade older DLSS versions in supported games.

However, there is a specific requirement to access the new features. Users must opt into the new Nvidia app beta. This is done by navigating to Settings > About after installing the new 591.74 driver. Once the beta is enabled, the DLSS 4.5 option will become visible.

This streamlined process allows players to apply the latest deep learning super sampling technology without manually downloading game patches, significantly improving the accessibility of the update.

6x Multi Frame Generation 🎮#

The second major upgrade announced is exclusive to GeForce RTX 50-series owners, scheduled for release this spring. This feature expands upon the existing Multi Frame Generation technology.

With 6x Multi Frame Generation, the system will be capable of generating five intermediate frames for every traditionally rendered frame. This effectively boosts framerates significantly higher than the previous limit of 4x generation.

Nvidia states that this update is specifically designed for high refresh rate monitors operating at 240Hz or above. This includes the new 360Hz ultrawide monitors also announced at CES.

A key addition to this feature is adaptive frame generation. Users will have the option to leave the frame generation decision to the graphics card dynamically. The system allows users to set a target framerate in the Nvidia app (such as 240fps for a 240Hz monitor), and the GPU will adjust the number of generated frames as base framerates fluctuate. This aims to deliver a consistent framerate, reducing input lag when high generation is unnecessary and preventing choppiness when base framerates drop.

The implementation of adaptive frame generation follows the release of similar functionality by third-party tool Lossless Scaling in March 2025.

Additional CES Announcements 📢#

Beyond DLSS 4.5, Nvidia made several other announcements during CES 2026. The company confirmed DLSS 4 support for several upcoming titles, including 007 First Light, Phantom Blade Zero, and Pragmata.

Updates were also mentioned for the RTX Remix modding tool, alongside a new range of Nvidia G-Sync Pulsar monitors. These monitors promise 'over 1000Hz effective motion clarity'.

Finally, GeForce Now is expanding its platform support with new applications for Linux and Amazon Fire TV.
