Quick Summary#

Meta has named Dina Powell McCormick as its president and vice chairman. She previously served as an advisor to President Donald Trump and has 16 years of leadership experience at Goldman Sachs. The appointment was announced on Monday, following a brief stint on Meta's board earlier this year.

Powell McCormick is the second former Trump official appointed to a leadership position at Meta in 2026. She previously worked in the Trump administration with a focus on the Middle East and also served under President George W. Bush. Her career includes significant roles in both government and finance, as well as a connection to the current U.S. Senate through her husband.

Meta's Strategic Hiring 📱#

Meta has officially appointed Dina Powell McCormick as its new president and vice chairman. The tech giant announced the decision on Monday, adding a veteran of both Washington and Wall Street to its executive ranks. Powell McCormick had previously joined Meta's board in April but resigned in December to take on this new leadership role.

Before joining Meta, Powell McCormick served as a deputy national security advisor to President Donald Trump. Her appointment is part of a broader trend of hiring former government officials. She is the second former Trump official appointed to a Meta leadership position in 2026. Last week, the company hired C.J. Mahoney, a deputy US trade representative during Trump's first term, as its chief legal officer.

The appointment drew immediate praise from the former president. On Truth Social, President Trump applauded the hiring, stating: "A great choice by Mark Z!!"

Government Service & Middle East Focus 🏛️#

Powell McCormick has a long history of service under Republican presidents. During her time in the Trump administration, she focused on the Middle East. She oversaw a $200 billion US-Saudi arms deal and spearheaded Trump's Middle East tour. She was also considered for roles as Trump's chief of staff or representative to the United Nations before leaving the administration in 2018.

Her connection to the region is personal as well as professional. Powell McCormick was born in Cairo, where her father was a captain in the Egyptian army. In 1977, her family moved to Dallas. She also served under President George W. Bush, starting in a personnel role and rising to senior White House assistant and assistant secretary of state under Condoleezza Rice. At the time of her resignation in 2007, she was the highest-ranking Arab American in the Bush administration.

Career at Goldman Sachs 💼#

After leaving the Bush administration, Powell McCormick joined Goldman Sachs, where she remained for 16 years. She was hired as a managing director and made partner in just three years. Her rapid rise reportedly sparked some bitterness among colleagues, but she was also a champion for many employees.

During her tenure, she launched and oversaw several major initiatives:

  • 10,000 Women program
  • 10,000 Small Businesses program
  • President of the Goldman Sachs Foundation

Anne Black, former president of Goldman Sachs Gives, praised Powell McCormick's leadership style. "She was really a steadfast champion for me and others of us on the team, who were all promoted thanks to her," Black said. "She elevated my game, inspired me to be creative and bold, and expected us to show results." Powell McCormick left Goldman Sachs in 2023.

Personal Life & Political Ties 🤝#

Powell McCormick is married to Senator Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania. The couple wed in 2019. While she no longer works directly in politics, she remains involved through her husband's career. She was active in his 2022 Senate campaign, appearing in ads and visiting Mar-a-Lago with him. That campaign ended with Dave McCormick conceding the Republican nomination to Mehmet Oz.

In 2024, Dave McCormick ran again and narrowly won the Senate seat, beating incumbent Bob Casey. Dina accompanied him to his swearing-in ceremony, which was overseen by then-Vice President Kamala Harris. Her presence in the political sphere continues through these connections, even as she moves into the private sector with Meta.
