Display Technology: The Micro RGB Battle 📺#

Television manufacturers are heavily focused on Micro RGB technology for 2026. Both Samsung and LG have pre-announced their lineups ahead of the show.

LG's Display Innovations

LG plans to debut its first Micro RGB television. The LG Micro RGB evo has received Intertek certifications for 100 percent color gamut coverage in DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB. It features more than a thousand dimming zones for brightness control.

LG is also introducing the LG Gallery TV in 55- and 65-inch sizes, designed to display artwork when not in use. For gamers, LG will showcase a new line of 5K-capable gaming monitors with built-in AI upscaling.

Samsung's Display Counter-Offensive

Samsung is expanding its Micro RGB range with models sized 55-, 65-, 75-, 85-, 100-, and 115 inches. This follows the 115-inch model introduced at CES 2025. Samsung is also launching a 6K model in its Odyssey gaming line that aims to deliver glasses-free 3D.

Samsung is reportedly pushing an updated version of the HDR10 standard, dubbed HDR10+ Advanced. This new standard would offer improved brightness, genre-based tone mapping, and intelligent motion smoothing.

Sony is also expected to showcase new display tech. The company has trademarked "True RGB," which uses individual Mini LED backlights colored in red, green, and blue. This technology aims to provide brightness comparable to Mini LED panels without the risk of burn-in associated with OLED.

AI and Chip Developments 💻#

Artificial intelligence remains a central theme for hardware manufacturers. New silicon will appear in consumer products, specifically targeting laptops and AI applications.

Processor Updates

Intel has announced it will launch its Panther Lake chips, officially titled Intel Core Ultra Series 3. These are designed for premium laptops and built on the 2-nanometer 18A process. Intel claims a 50 percent increase in processing performance and a 50 percent bump for the Arc GPU compared to the previous generation.

AMD is expected to introduce new Ryzen chips, including the Ryzen 7 9850X3D and the Ryzen 9000G series built with the Zen 5 architecture. The company may also discuss its FSR Redstone AI upscaling tech.

Qualcomm is rumored to target the laptop market with its Snapdragon X2 Elite and X2 Elite Premium chips, aiming to improve speed and AI performance.

AI in Robotics

Robotics will be a significant talking point, driven by advancements in world models—AI designed to understand physical space. This technology is crucial for navigation in home and workplace environments.

LG will introduce a humanoid home automation robot named CLOiD. Additionally, improvements in robot vacuums are expected, including models with retractable arms and legs to traverse small ledges.

Audio, Automotive, and Other Pre-Announcements 🚗#

Beyond displays and chips, several companies have revealed products for the home and mobility sectors.

Audio and Home Tech

LG is expanding its audio offerings with a Dolby-powered modular home audio system and a new line of xboom speakers developed with will.i.am. Samsung has teased new soundbars and speakers, including Wi-Fi streaming models called the Music Studio 5 and Studio 7.

Displace will demonstrate a mounting option for TVs that includes a 15,000mAh battery, potentially eliminating the need for a power cord.

Automotive and Mobility

Sony Honda Mobility will provide further details on its Afeela EV. Hyundai will focus on in-cabin car technology and robotics during its concurrent press conference with NVIDIA.

Ballie Watch

Samsung's ball-shaped robot, Ballie, has been announced multiple times since 2020. Originally slated for a 2025 release with Google's Gemini onboard, it has yet to materialize. It remains unclear if Samsung will announce the robot again at CES 2026.
