Quick Summary#

Berlin's iconic Pergamon Museum is currently closed for extensive renovation work, a significant undertaking for one of the German capital's most important cultural institutions. The renovation aims to preserve and upgrade the facilities that house some of the world's most significant ancient artifacts.

A specific wing of the museum is scheduled to reopen to the public in 2027, marking a key milestone in the multi-year project. While the museum remains closed, this period offers a unique opportunity to look behind the scenes at the treasures that define the Pergamon. The collection includes monumental structures and priceless items from ancient civilizations.

The upcoming reopening will allow visitors to once again experience these historical masterpieces in a modernized and secure environment. The renovation is a major focus for Berlin's cultural sector, highlighting the importance of preserving historical heritage for future generations.

The Grand Renovation Project#

The Pergamon Museum in Berlin is undergoing a major renovation, a project of immense scale and importance. This extensive work is necessary to modernize the museum's infrastructure and ensure the long-term preservation of its world-renowned collection. The museum, a cornerstone of Berlin's museum island, has been closed to the public to facilitate these crucial upgrades.

The renovation is a complex operation involving structural improvements and updates to climate control and security systems. These enhancements are vital for protecting the delicate and often monumental artifacts housed within the museum. The project underscores a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of museum curation and visitor safety.

Key aspects of the renovation include:

  • Structural reinforcement of the building
  • Upgraded climate control for artifact preservation
  • Modernized visitor facilities and accessibility
  • Enhanced security systems

The closure impacts access to the museum's famous exhibits, but it is a necessary step to safeguard these cultural treasures. The work is progressing with the goal of welcoming visitors back to a revitalized and improved museum experience.

Treasures Inside the Museum#

While the museum is closed for renovations, the focus remains on the incredible treasures that await visitors upon its reopening. The Pergamon Museum is famed for its collection of monumental ancient architectural structures. These include the famous Ishtar Gate of Babylon and the Pergamon Altar, which gives the museum its name.

The collection spans several millennia and civilizations, offering a journey through ancient history. Visitors can expect to see artifacts from the Near East, classical antiquity, and Islamic art. Each piece tells a story of ancient empires, artistic achievement, and archaeological discovery.

The museum's holdings are among the most significant of their kind in the world. The renovation ensures that these masterpieces can be displayed in the best possible conditions. The sneak peek into the museum highlights the enduring value of these historical objects and the importance of the preservation work being done.

Looking Ahead to 2027#

The scheduled reopening of a wing of the Pergamon Museum in 2027 is a highly anticipated event. This date marks a significant step forward in the renovation timeline and signals the return of these cultural icons to public view. The reopening will be a major cultural event for Berlin and for art and history enthusiasts worldwide.

Once the renovated wing opens, visitors will be able to experience the awe-inspiring scale of the museum's exhibits in a completely refreshed setting. The combination of historical grandeur and modern museum technology promises an unparalleled visitor experience. The project represents a forward-looking approach to cultural heritage, blending preservation with innovation.

The anticipation builds as the 2027 date approaches. The museum's return will re-establish its position as a must-see destination on Berlin's Museum Island. The extensive renovation work ensures that the Pergamon Museum will continue to inspire and educate for generations to come.

Jennifer Lawrence says a 15-minute compromise helps her and her husband make their differences work

Jennifer Lawrence Christopher Polk/2026GG/Penske Media via Getty Images Jennifer Lawrence, 35, says she married someone who is the "opposite" of her. While he is good at sticking to a schedule, it's something she finds challenging, she said. "But we've learned, to keep our marriage alive, I have a 15-minute wiggle room," Lawrence said. Jennifer Lawrence, 35, says one small compromise helps balance her free-spirited personality with her husband's love of structure. "I married somebody who is the opposite of me. He is so organized," Lawrence said during an appearance on Tuesday's episode of the "Smartless" podcast. "He's an anchor. Everything is ordered, like on the sink. Like I have to, you know, like keep the closet doors closed, and I have like my little jobs that I work really hard to do," she said. When asked which of her habits frustrates her husband the most, Lawrence said it was her struggle with timing. "The schedule. So, our kids. I mean, I get it now. I get it. But like they're on a very strict schedule, you know? It's like breakfast, 7:30," the "Hunger Games" actor said. While her husband is good at sticking to a schedule, especially when it comes to their kids, it's something she finds challenging, Lawrence said. "He's good at keeping it. But we've learned, to keep our marriage alive, I have a 15-minute wiggle room," she said. Lawrence has two sons with her husband, Cooke Maroney, whom she married in 2019. This is not the first time that she has talked about her family life. Speaking with Cameron Diaz for Interview magazine in 2021, Lawrence said becoming a mother has made her more selective when it comes to choosing her projects. "There's no squeezing when you have a baby. There's just home, and it's the best. It definitely helps weed out projects: 'Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes. No. Is this worth being away from my child for half the day?'" she said. Lawrence also credited her husband with making things easier for her as a working mother. "Yeah, and fortunately, my husband is the greatest father in the entire world, so when I'm working, I don't have any more guilt than the usual every day, all-day parent guilt," she said. Lawrence also told Vanity Fair in 2021 that one of her favorite activities is going to the grocery store with her husband. "I don't know why but it fills me with a lot of joy. I think maybe because it's almost a metaphor for marriage. 'Okay, we've got this list. These are the things we need. Let's work together and get this done.'" Lawrence said.
