Desde 2020, a tendência é de crescimento, embora haja falta de transparência nos registros, por parte do regime dos aiatolás. Casos de homicídios e drogas dominam as acusações. Diante da onda de protestos que se alastrou há 18 dias pelas 31 províncias do país, com mais de 2.500 mortos e 18 mil prisões, Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei, presidente do Supremo Tribunal do Irã, anunciou que os julgamentos dos manifestantes deveriam ser realizados em público. Preso na quinta-feira passada, o manifestante Erfan Soltani, de 26 anos, teve a execução, por enforcamento, programada para esta quarta-feira após um julgamento, que, segundo a família, durou apenas dois dias. Segundo a HRANA, 11 das execuções realizadas no ano passado foram públicas. A contar pelas imagens de quase uma centena de confissões exibidas nos últimos dias pela TV estatal, o regime deverá manter a determinação de enforcar os condenados sob as vistas da população. A HRANA afirma que as confissões são obtidas por coação, após tortura física e psicológica, em que os manifestantes expressam remorso e vínculos com os EUA e Israel. Os métodos para sufocar os protestos sinalizam o desespero do regime e incluem, além do uso da força letal, bloqueio de internet e telefonia em todo o país. O ministro da Justiça, Amin Hossein Rahimi, acrescentou mais uma violação à longa lista acumulada pela ditadura teocrática: qualquer iraniano que tenha saído às ruas desde o dia 8 será considerado criminoso.
